Shawn Michael Howard is an amazing actor originally from Newark, Jersey, who has created a name for himself in both Drama and Comedy work in Film and Television. Shawn is a graduate of New York University/Tisch School of the Arts (Theater/Acting).
He began his career working in Off-Broadway theater in Mac Wellman’s Crowbar, which won an Obie Award for Best Play. His first feature film role was opposite Tupac Shakur in Above the Rim. Shawn then moved to Hollywood and quickly landed a starring role in the film Sunset Park opposite Terrence Howard.
In Los Angeles, Shawn is affiliated with Beverly Hills Playhouse/Milton Katselas’ Master Class, The Ruskin School (Meisner), and The Actors’ Gang.
Shawn’s film work includes, Men of Honor, Boycott, 3,000 Miles to Graceland, David O. Russell’s Flirting with Disaster. Television credits include series regular roles on the hit sitcom The Single Guy (NBC) and Eddie Murphy’s Award-winning claymation series The PJs (FOX and USA Network); recurring roles on Ally McBeal (FOX), The Practice (ABC), Martial Law (CBS), Nash Bridges (CBS); guest star appearances on critically acclaimed one-hour dramas NYPD Blue (ABC), Law & Order (NBC), 413 Hope St. (FOX), Jack & Jill (The WB), and comedic turns in sitcoms including Married with Children (FOX), Becker (CBS), Cupid (ABC), Smart Guy (The WB) and It’s Like, You Know… (ABC).
Shawn’s layered performance as the loveable crackhead “Smokey” on the animated series The PJs garnered praise from critics and won fans around the globe. His dynamic talent is in demand and featured in some of today’s most celebrated, cutting-edge animated shows, such as American Dad!, Family Guy (FOX) and Robot Chicken (Adult Swim).
Shawn resides in Los Angeles. He enjoys a healthy active lifestyle of biking, hiking and long distance running. He finished the 26.2 mile course between Dodger Stadium and Santa Monica Beach in the 2010 Honda LA Marathon. In his spare time Shawn sings, plays guitar, and consistently demolishes opponents brave enough to face him in a game of chess.
